Mission

The NeuroCarto Research Group founded in 2023 is a part of the historic UW Cartography Lab. Led by Dr. Bill Limpisathian, this research group aims to investigate the neuropsychological correlates of map reading, geospatial cognition, spatial thinking, navigation, and environmental perception. The group’s core objective is to use a broadened toolset and perspectives spanning cartography, geography, neuropsychology, and related information sciences to address fundamental questions surrounding our interaction with space and the cartographic and spatial tools we use to aid human spatial navigation and exploration.

The group’s research is focused on understanding how humans perceive and interact with their environment, with a particular emphasis on the cognitive processes involved in spatial thinking and navigation. By exploring the neuropsychological underpinnings of these processes, the NeuroCarto Research Group aims to develop new insights into how we can better understand and utilize the tools and technologies that help us navigate and explore our world.
